Man, it was a good one…one of the best ever. But I fear that such statements imply that preachers have perfect Christmases…because, well, we work for Jesus, and it’s His holiday.

So I thought I’d share an inside peak at some of the things I experience too-just like you probably do-during the holidays. I hope it will relieve some of the unrealistic pressure that “normal” people feel to have the perfect Christmas.
I’m really bad at reading my Bible and praying during the holidays.

The whole schedule (or non-schedule) throws off my rhythm. Therefore, sometimes at the end of the holiday season, a thin layer of dust has gathered on my Bible cover.
I get really tense and have the hardest time going with the flow when things don’t go according to plan.

I seem to have these magical moments scripted in my head. When someone misses their cue, or an impromptu moment happens, I don’t always respond like a thermostat. Elevators, you know what I mean.
I have a hard time decompressing to truly be with my family.

It’s the difference between being there and being there. I know you know exactly what I mean.
A few more:

I get stressed about money at Christmas time. Very stressed.

I don’t have 30 minute dramatic interpretations of the birth of baby Jesus scheduled before every meal.

I also don’t lead the family in Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem, and a responsive reading of Luke 1 every night before bed.
Just wanted you to know that if your Christmas was filled with wonderful times with people you love-

mixed with imperfect moments resulting from the fact that you’re an imperfect person…

You’re just like the preacher.
