If you make someone else’s dreams come true, God will make your dreams come true.
One of my mentors taught me this early in my ministry, and it has served me well. Although I’m sure you could abuse and manipulate this principle, it’s been very true in my life so far.
Before we started Elevation, I served under several other leaders in both volunteer and staff capacities. And as a worker in their fields, I made it my chief ambition to make all the dreams that God had put in their hearts succeed. I didn’t always do it perfectly, but it was my unquestionable ambition to make these men succeed.
I tried to become passionate about what they were passionate about…
What was important to them became important to me.
And I studied them attentively, so that I could complete their calling to the best of my ability.
Now I look out on the landscape of my own ministry as a pastor, and God has surrounded me with so many wonderful people to hold me up and bring the vision He has instilled in me to pass.
I certainly don’t deserve it, but God is faithful, and He honors His Word, for His glory.
The times that I’ve been the most frustrated in my ministry have come when I’ve put the focus on making my own dreams come true.
The times I’ve been most fulfilled have resulted from me pulling the potential out of others, adding value to them, and doing my part to bring God’s plan for their life to pass.
If you are in a position to make someone else’s dreams come true (your boss, your pastor, your spouse, your child, your best friend), do it with joy, to the best of your ability.
It is my experience that God will reward you richly.
