Spontaneous Baptisms

My idea of a good sermon includes the following components: intensity, candor, plot, controversy, belligerence, focus, and transcendence. These are admittedly non-definitive and definitely in no particular order. But I try to position my mind and my heart during the week so that come Sunday, I have something to say that will set the people of God on fire and leave no doubt that Jesus is real and strong.

To me, the most important component of a sermon is hope. And for the next 5 weeks at Elevation, I’m setting out on a crusade to inspire radical hope with this new series: What Should I Do With My Life?

So many people, young and old, Christians and non-Christians, drag through life, living on crumbs. This ain’t right. Jesus died to purchase and secure our hope. I have a birthright as a child of God to wake up each day with hope. To walk in hope. To have confidence that my hope won’t be disappointed.

And this week, I’ve got a Word from the Lord for our congregation:

“Today is the first day of the best days of your life!”

It may be cliché, but dang it, I’m gonna shout it from the rooftops ‘til we’re living like it’s true! If that doesn’t inspire hope, I don’t know what does!

If you want to do your homework before you come, be reading Luke 5:1-11 this week.

If you live anywhere near Charlotte, get here for this series. If you have any friends who need hope, now is the time to get them to church.

Let’s get ready for an awesome move of God!
