THR3E FAQ’s

Guest Blogger: Chunks Corbett

threeblog

The response to the THR3E event has been overwhelming. In case you missed some of the details, you can read about them here and here.  Registration is filling up fast and many of you have asked some questions about the event. Here are some of the most frequently asked:

Will we have access to Pastor Steven?
Yes. Pastor Steven will be available throughout the day to meet the attendees.

What is the lunch plan?
Lunch will be provided and the staff will be available along with some structured Q and A time.

Will the whole staff be there?
Our entire staff will be present all day to help answer any questions. Along with Q and A over lunch, we have built the day with a lot of time to interact with our staff.

When will registration end?
Registration will end when we are full or on March 31st, whichever comes first.

Are there any available spots?
We have a few dozen spots left.

What will be included in the Resource Kit?
We are working very hard to include everything we have that we think would be useful to you. Here are a few things… Volunteer recruitment and training manuals, corporate documents (bylaws, handbook), job descriptions, org charts (diff sizes of growth, policies and procedures, budgeting docs, chart of accounts, creative process detail, small group info… I told you everything. We won’t include our series graphics and videos because they will be available online for free (coming soon).

Those are some of the details. If you’re waiting to register you better hurry. You don’t want to miss this one time event.

All Call Date Night

Guest Blog: Chunks Corbett, Executive Pastor

Last Sunday at Elevation Church we decided to stop telling the married couples of the church to go on a date and actually send them. Pastor has been challenging men over the last few weeks to “date their wives”.

With the economy hanging on by a thread (at least if you watch the news), we wanted to be proactive and actually remove all excuses. So we gave every married couple the opportunity to get a $30 restaurant gift card and get reimbursed for 3 hrs of childcare.

Several months ago, we made the call to set aside the resources to do this for our church and just because people are waiting in line for gas we weren’t going to back down. I have to admit, when Pastor came to me with the idea I immediately got the calculator out but this speaks volumes to his heart to see married couples date and communicate.

The response was overwhelming. Looking at our demographics, approximately 75% of the married couples in the church participated. Below is an example of a print piece we used and some basic details on what we did. We weren’t the first church to do this and our hope in posting this is that we won’t be the last.

Details:
Pastor announced it during his sermon. Everyone was given a card with the same information on the voucher above and picked one of the 12 pre-selected restaurants (we worked with the restaurant managers to make this simple). People then went to one of the many volunteers in the lobby at multiple stations and exchanged their completed card (contact info and restaurant choice) for a date night envelope containing the voucher and a childcare reimbursement form. The volunteers just made sure to mark the voucher for the restaurant they selected. We then created a master spreadsheet for everyone that signed up and created guest books that we took to the hostesses at all the restaurants and purchased the enough $30 gift cards for all the guests. Couples will now simply go to the restaurant they chose and give the hostess their voucher for their gift card and then send their childcare reimbursement form to the church offices. We set a 2 week window to go on the date to prompt action, limited it to married couples, and told everyone to tip well!

Here are a few more resources.

Hurry Up and Wait

Whether you blame it on the gas crunch or maybe the economy, the bottom line is the airport just ain’t what it used to be.
A few of our lead team are out in Oklahoma City with Pastor hanging with the guys at LifeChurch.tv, and on the flight out we were able to squeeze a 6 hour trip into 11 hours.
Was it the gas? Maybe. The economy? Could be. I’ll tell you what I think it is… laziness and apathy. We watched the baggage crew meander their way into showing up 15 minutes late to slothfully load our bags as we waited to taxi down the runway. The result was a missed connection by minutes.
The airline industry is the only business in the world that can give crap for service and not be held accountable. The days of writing letters to the corporate office and getting free vouchers are over.

So what did we do with a 6 hour layover in Memphis? Well, Pastor called a staff meeting and we sat at the Interstate Bar-B-Q and battled the issues we’re facing like it was a Staff Advance (we don’t retreat).
In conclusion, here are takeaways: the airline on this particular day was less than stellar (SUTB) and its great to have a leader like Pastor who seizes every opportunity, even a layover in Memphis, to advance the church.
