“If you get the impression that we’re all about the numbers, let me clarify…
Of course we’re all about the numbers. What else would we be all about? The spaghetti supper? To hell with the spaghetti supper. I want to see some changed lives!”

This may be the funnest line I’ve ever used in preaching. I’ve said it once at Elevation, and once at a friend’s church. I didn’t mean to send the spaghetti supper to hell. It just happened, on the spot.

If I hear one more blogging wuss complain about how there is too much focus on the numbers in our churches today, I’m going to… well, I’ll just let you check the email inboxes around here for a day.
Because what you’ll discover really quickly is that every number is indicative of a story.
Lori printed a story out today and brought it to me, and it wrecked me. It was an amazing picture of a transformed life. I think I’ll share the story Sunday, as a matter of fact. Because I’ll be preaching on Acts 2:41, where the Holy Spirit through Luke recorded that about 3000 (give or take) were baptized on the day of Pentecost…

I guess the Holy Spirit is all about the numbers too.
