Hurry, go pick up the kids from school early!
Have the secretary call them over the loudspeaker and tell them to “report to the main office, ready to go home.” (Remember that?)
Explain to the principal that their favorite stevenfurtick.com feature is back and better than ever.
For at least the month of March, I’m reinstating the Hero of the Day column.
Wait, we don’t have columns in blog world, do we?
I’ll stick with the term feature.
Anyway, after March, we’ll reevaluate the weekly Hero of the Day contest to see if it’s still edifying and provocative enough to warrant prime time Friday real estate on this here site.
A decision of this magnitude will have to go through the Committee on Blog Committees, though. And then to the Board of Blog Directors. Then their recommendation will be taken before the blogging congregation, for a vote.
That should solve it.
Sorry. I’ll now stop the madness.
My Heroes of the Day, Welcome Back edition, are:
Scott and Helen Dinkins!!!
When we were starting Elevation, we couldn’t get anyone over 40 to stick around. They would walk into our meetings and look around like: “Oh, so the youth group meeting is going on right now. When do the grown ups get together?”
Scott and Helen braved the elements. They became frontline workers and told other 40+s to stop whining about the loud music and jump into what God was doing.
I attribute so much of our growing age diversity to their passion and humility.
Scott also has a sexy hat, and Helen Quinn Medicine Woman helped me get well before our anniversary.
I love these people.
Helen sends me encouraging emails and volunteers in the office weekly.
On top of all of that, they’re small group leaders at Elevation (one of our highest honors) and they sent this email out to their group this week.
I’m posting it without permission in its entirety because it perfectly reflects the heart and attitude of our vision.
Love ya Dinksters.
Hello Small Groupers!!!! (the best small group at Elevation!!!! — or the Dinksters, as Scott refers to us all!)
Because each small group member is a part of this leadership team, Scott and I think we should then, as a united group, pray and fast tomorrow. We will not be bringing food tomorrow night, but will meet for prayer and a brief moment of sharing — about what God is doing in your own life as a result of your involvement at Elevation.. But for most of our time together, we would like to pray for Pastor Steven, protection for him and his family, direction from God, wisdom for the staff, courage for the staff, and anything else you might have on your heart concerning this. We want to cry out to God — he will hear our prayers and the momentum will continue, as will His favor for our church.
Pastor Steven has asked us to fast and pray on Wednesday specifically for two things as we fast:
1. 70+ acres
2. 50,000 sq foot building that we can renovate and use as a transitional building for worship service
We are in a season of momentum at Elevation and Pastor Steven described countless times that the Elevation staff has literally “bumped” into blessing after blessing after blessing from God. These specific blessings only demonstrate that we, as a church, are in an incredible season of God’s favor. I challenge all of you to personally keep yourself holy as part of this body of Christ at Elevation. This personal decision and commitment will only increase the blessings that God is pouring over our church.
Heather Bishop challenged us to prepare to unify our church in this season of growth by sharing Pastor Steven’s vision with newcomers and guests. Your assignment for tomorrow night is prepare a short statement that you could share with others about Elevation – specifically—’ what will we say to newcomers about the vision that God planted in Pastor Steven’s heart 10 years ago?’. What single statement could we speak that will demonstrate clearly a unified force of believers called Elevation Church? What Bible verse could we use to help us explain to newcomers? If this isn’t making sense, anyone can jump right in here with an e-mail that might speak to this with more clarity. J
I sincerely hope you will all consider fasting at least one meal —- or fast all day — either way, please join us in being in a prayerful state of mind all day long. If you choose not to fast, please eat before you come to small group tomorrow night or after you leave.
See you all tomorrow night! What an exciting moment in time for us all! What a great opportunity we have in store for us all in we remain faithful to what God has called us all to do!
Love in Christ,
Helen and Scott
