A throwback line for all my true dogs.
Here’s what inspired it:
Last night we had our first GroupLink (the small groups version of speed dating), and I decided to spy.
Why didn’t I just walk in?
Because spying is more fun.
That, and John Bishop, our Groups Director, told me that if I distracted people from getting plugged into small groups by talking to them, I’d be escorted out by security.
Then I’d have to beat up the security personnel. It would have been a bad scene.
But let me tell you what wasn’t a bad scene. In fact, it was an amazing scene, and it made me very emotional (in a manly way).
Seeing cars lined up and down the street, spilling over into the Old Navy parking lot, and knowing that the Levine Center was packed to the gills with people signing up for small groups. Driving up on that was like being 5 years old and running down the hall on Christmas morning.
I’ll tell you why.
We used to meet at the Levine Center, until we outgrew it in August.
And here’s why last night was emotional for me:
We showed up for support at the grand opening of the Levine Center back in March of 06, and the parking lot was slammed. People were parking along the roads and in the Old Navy parking lot across the street.
And me and Chunks (after parking illegally in an apartment complex lot and sneaking through the bushes) had this conversation:
“What will it be like to have traffic backed up like this for our worship services?”
And seeing that last night-not for a worship service-but for a weeknight event for people to voluntarily plug into small groups-just blew me away.
God is faithful.
John Bishop, Holly Brown, Laura Looker, group leaders, connectors, and everyone else who kicked butt last night:
I’m so proud of you! It doesn’t get any better than that, huh?
You guys are my midweek heroes of the day.
I love this church!
