Thoughts from Pastor Steven

Here’s something I’ve discovered about the process of transformation:
When God initiates a change in an area of my life, it usually gets worse before it gets better.

I’m going to preach from John 9 this Sunday. This fascinating passage describes the unorthodox progression of a miracle:

*A blind man encounters Jesus
*Jesus spits on the ground to create homemade mud
*Jesus sends the man away to wash in a pool
*The man obeys and is healed

It’s really a bizarre way for Jesus to go about this. Disgusting, too.

But I guess what intrigues me the most is that just before the biggest breakthrough of this poor guy’s life, he winds up standing in front of everyone with mud on his face.
I mean, it’s bad enough to be blind from birth. Mud in your eyes too? Really?
It’s just humiliating.

Hence the point of this post:
Often, just before God takes you to a new level in your life, things get worse before they get better.
Before Gideon’s victory, God sent home all of his help.
Before the Red Sea parted, Pharaoh and his army were closing in fast.
Before the resurrection, there had to be a crucifixion.

I’ll share much more on Sunday. Bring your friends.
