Thoughts from Pastor Steven

I should say thank you to more people, more often.
The investment is minimal, and the pay off is big.

I made a series of decisions over the last month that will involve investing tens of thousands of dollars into some of the staff families at Elevation Church.
I didn’t do it so they would say thank you.
I did it because I love them and value them.
But 3 of the staff wives emailed to say thank you.
And it meant a lot. It made me glad I did it, and it made me want to do it again.
All of this positive effect, and it only took them 3 minutes.
Pretty good R.O.I.

God told me today that I need to be more grateful. In the two years following my salvation experience, I was very intentional (almost legalistic) about making sure thanksgiving saturated my attitude and actions, especially my speech.

These days I seem to be more careless. I tend to get grumpy too often.
It’s a bad look.
And now that I’m leading lots of people, it creates serious inertia.

Somewhere there’s a fine line between “being real” (quite possibly the most abused phrase in modern Christianity. It can be used to excuse just about any ungodly behavior that you don’t want to fix: “I’m just being real… “) and faking it.

It’s not that I think I need to end every sentence with Praise God, Amen, or God is good.
It’s just that I need to be more vocal about what I appreciate and value.
Toward the people I love and toward the God I serve.
