I’m proud to say that this week we’re putting the finishing touches on my first book that will be released on September 21st.
Many have been asking what the essential message of the book will be. The crux of Sun Stand Still is that God has created us to do more than merely settle for the lowest common denominator of faith. We have a God of infinite power who takes infinite pleasure in accomplishing the impossible for His glory. So why should we settle for a faith that only musters up the courage to ask for a good day?
In the Old Testament, Joshua had the audacity to ask God to make the sun stand still in the sky. To freeze time on behalf of his people so they could see the purposes of God accomplished.
Could it be that God intends for us to have this same kind of faith? The kind that dares to believe God for the impossible—as a normal way of life? I believe He does.
After all, this is the God who created the cosmos with a word from His mouth. This is the God who parted the Red Sea. This is the God who raised the dead. This is the God who made the sun stand still. This is the God who can still do those same kinds of miracles in and through us.
More than a book, this is about raising up a movement of individuals and churches who will be like Joshua and dare to ask Him for the impossible. It’s about seeing our lives and the world transformed by a God whose ability to respond will always exceed our audacity to ask. So I’ve created a website where you will find resources that will get you plugged into the movement and help you activate your audacious faith.
There is a section where people can write out their own Sun Stand Still prayers so that you can join with others in praying for the impossible. In conjunction with this, we will be hosting online video prayer experiences where you’ll be able to join with me and the staff of Elevation Church as we pray over the prayers you submit and share stories of the sun standing still over our lives.
If you’re a leader in ministry and want to see audacious faith ignited in your people, we’re producing short videos and discussion questions to go along with the book for you to use in small groups where the essential themes will be distilled and yet carried even further. You’ll also have access to a sermon I preached on Joshua’s Sun Stand Still experience to show in your church or for groups within your church.
However you choose to get involved, there’s nothing our world needs more desperately today—in individuals, families, businesses, churches, and communities—than God’s saving, supernatural acts. And he’s ready to act if we will be bold enough to ask, not just for a good day or a better life, but for the impossible. So join the movement, and get ready to see the sun stand still.
