Ok, I’m no Seth Godin, but here’s my best attempt at this kind of post. I’ll keep it short in case it ends up being stupid.

Tonight Holly asked me to pick up Zaxby’s for dinner. We love Zaxby’s. I fell in love with the Wings and Things combo many years ago. And Holly has recently become addicted to the Buffalo Chicken Fingers. As a result, Zaxby’s and I have been reunited… and it feels so good…

But Zaxby’s broke my heart tonight.

You see, Zax Sauce is delicious. So delicious that you end up dipping not only your chicken fingers, but your fries as well. This is a good thing, right? Not if you use all your sauce and want another pack.

Because they charge you a quarter for an extra sauce.

I think this is silly. Zaxby’s Inc. must be in bad shape if they can’t give me an extra pack of sauce (which, in my humble male opinion, isn’t big enough anyway!) for free. Is making an extra 25 cents off of me more important than guaranteeing my repeat business by amply supplying me with the sauce that I’m addicted to, thereby guaranteeing I’ll return to satisfy my addiction?

You know what? I bet I can tell you why they do it.
Because some stringy haired 16 year old who worked at one Zaxby’s location somewhere in Georgia (it could have been anywhere, just work with me) was taking home the sauce and selling it on the black market.

Or probably just giving away way too much of it.

So rather than try to implement some waste management systems, some idiot in the corporate office hands down an edict: 25 cents for an extra sauce. That’ll fix it.

And Zaxby’s fans the world over are still feeling the shockwaves.

I wonder what silly things our church is doing or what wonderful things we’re not doing because one idiot once upon a time screwed it up for everybody.

Zaxby’s, I’ll try to find it in my heart to forgive you. Maybe we can move past this. I just need a little time.
