Guest Blogger: John Bishop – Butler Campus Director

We had a great worship experience yesterday…that is, we had a great worship experience planned for yesterday!  Shawn Wood, the Experience Pastor from Seacoast Church came up to deliver a great message, we had a perfect set list, some cool videos; everything seemed to be going well.  Then, demons entered into our equipment and all hell broke loose.

Yesterday will forever be logged at the top of our worst-production-days-in-history list.  Here’s the rest of the story from my perspective:

Chunks Corbett (Executive Pastor) calls me, John Bishop, (Campus Pastor at Butler) 30 minutes before our first service and says:

Chunks: Everything has crapped out over here.  We don’t have a video to send you.
John: Let me get this clear, you don’t have a video to send me?
Chunks: Yes, that’s right!
John: Awesome, what’s the plan?
Chunks: You’re preaching!
John: On what?
Chunks: That’s on you.
John: Awesome!
Chunks: And John, You’ll probably need to do both services.
John: What about Uptown?
Chunks: Larry Hubatka’s on his way…
John: Awesome!

What do you do when you find out that everything you planned for your worship experience has got to be completely re- planned or reorganized, including the message, and you have 20 minutes to pull it together?  Well, in our case, we buckled down and made it happen.

For those of you who would like to learn from our mistakes let me offer a different solution:

Pull the canned sermon that you always have ready to go on Sunday mornings (complete with a custom roll-in that sets up the sermon and puts it in context) out of its little travel case at each of your campuses, slide it into the tape deck and press play!

That’s what we’re going to do!!!
