Thoughts from Pastor Steven

I’ve had a great day off today (I’d forgotten there was such a thing)!

We took Elijah to see Leonard Bearnstein and the Not So Bearly Singers uptown.
He loved it. He was shaking his booty.

But no need to fear-not even singing bears can stop me from recognizing my Hero of the Day.

So, this week it is my pleasure to immortalize the following wonderful woman of God as my hero of the day:

Erin Hummel.

Every week Erin does tons of behind the scenes stuff, like putting together all the preschool curriculum.

But this week, her kids are staying w/ her parents, so she’s been out at the office several days (she even stayed later than me one day!) helping Heather, our children’s pastor.

In fact, she even told Heather that she would do anything Heather needed, even if it was wrapping her Christmas presents or doing her laundry. Wow.
That’s what you call honoring your spiritual leaders!

And every single week, like so many wives of Elevation volunteers, Erin does the work of a single mom so her husband David can serve starting at the crack of dawn.

By the way, David is my right hand man on Sunday mornings. He’s an amazing servant. We’ll call him Erin’s assistant hero of the day.

Did I mention that Erin and David moved their family from Florida just to be volunteers and members of Elevation?
Some people think that’s crazy.
I say, people move for jobs, climate, and family all the time.
Why wouldn’t you pack up and move for the body of Christ-the church?

Hummels, you rock. Luke and Lilly, you rock too!

(And Erin, If Heather didn’t take you up on the laundry thing, I’m sure Holly will! :) )
