I figured it out. I think I knew it all the time, but now I can explain it to you in a simple phrase:
Just do the opposite.
Whenever your flesh or Satan suggests something to you, do the opposite.
When tempted to complain in your heart, tell God something you appreciate about Him out loud.
When tempted to feel sorry for yourself because no one encourages you, send someone else the most encouraging email you can possibly write. Immediately.
When tempted to think or act on something impure, go immerse yourself in something pure and beautiful. (For me this would be worship music, real loud, and me singing at the top of my lungs. For you, it may be silence, outside, in the woods.)
When you feel like you’re pushed to the edge of your sanity with the busyness of life, STOP. And pray or rest until you’re refreshed and ready to go again. This reminds everyone involved that God is not a God of drama and confusion, and the whole world is in His hands, not yours.
The examples could go on and on, but the lesson is over.
Now it’s time for your homework assignment.
What are you being tempted to do today?
Go do the opposite.
